The 52^nd Annual Meeting of the Japanese Environmental Mutagen and Genome Society (JEMS)

It is our great pleasure to hold the 52nd Annual Meeting of the Japanese Environmental Mutagen and Genome Society (JEMS) at Fukuoka University (Fukuoka, Japan), on November 11 (Sat.) and 12 (Sun.), 2023. Since it’s establishment in 1972, the Japanese Environmental Mutagen Society has been promoting basic research on mutagens that significantly impact public health and disseminating related information and technologies. As genome safeties are our scientific goals and mission for contributing to public society, we would keep advancing researches such as identification of genotoxic substances, new systems for detection of mutagen, and mechanistic investigation of their metabolisms.

Mutation in our life would be the focus of the 52nd Annual Meeting. While mutation in the human genome is closely linked to diseases such as accelerating aging and cancers, cellular machineries for generating mutation could also be benefit for human health represented as immune systems. Notably, the coronavirus and its variants have let us realize how the mutation significantly impacts on public society. Therefore we set ""What is Mutation?"" as the theme of the meeting. The meeting will highlight topics of mutagen that generate mutation, including the full establishment of the detection, identification, metabolism, and mechanisms of genotoxic substances, establishing standard test methods, and determining standards and regulating practices and education related to food additives, pesticides, environmental pollutants, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and occupational safety.

We are currently planning various symposia, poster presentations, and research presentations by experts on this theme. After COVID19 disaster, we would sincerely expect symposiums will be exciting by researchers especially from foreign countries who are waiting for discussion with direct communications for years about their hot topics. We would also expect more participants from Kyushu region. It is noteworthy that there are poster presentations by ‘future scientists that are currently studying science at high school who will present. We sincerely hope that many researchers will get interested and participate in this meeting. NO SCIENCE, NO FUTURE!
